Description
Prentice-Stone Pavilion– #Sunday_feature 3 of 5 – Silent Village
When Goldberg designed Prentice he was designing a new type of building that had to serve a very specific purpose. He came up with an idea he called "Silent Village". Each floor would contain four villages, in a X shape with a village at each point. The idea being that the medical staff could all be in the center and the patient would be around the perimeter. This would mean that every patient would be the same distance away. He also wanted to create a small intermit area where families would feel comfortable. The room were large to accommodate more than just the mother and the doctor so it would be a Family unit. He also went to great lengths to make it as quite and peaceful as possible. The most significant design element of this was the square base at the bottom. He put all the offices and surgery rooms in the base and so noise would not travel up the building he separated the patient floors.
