I made a brilliant discovery today... While believing that I had completely failed with my sunflowers. Watching them wilt and die from lack of water, I pulled most of my twelve sunflowers out of the ground, due to our water restrictions. I couldn't bare to watch them suffer any longer. The last few remaining, I watered until I could see that my small water supply did them no good. Then I just ignored them because it was just too hard to admit defeat and failure and watch them slowly droop over my raised planter wall. Today, I discovered that they were doing exactly what they were supposed to be doing and found sunflower seeds ready to harvest. WHAT?!?!? While I was mourning they were producing right on schedule. While I was agonizing about pulling them out of the ground they were doing what nature taught them to do. And without knowing it, my neglect was allowing them to dry on the stem perfectly. These are the very first sunflower seeds I have ever grown. And I did it by mistake.ðŸ˜...
