"China decorates our table...funny how the cracks don't seem to show." (Tori Amos) | This photo was taken while visiting dear friends in Provincetown, Massachusetts. The china belonged to an elderly man who had been a lifelong hoarder. The problem had apparently become quite serious as he had been issued numerous warnings from local authorities about his substandard living conditions. The neighbors joined together to come to the old man's aid and had already formed piles of his discarded belongings on an empty lot adjacent to his home when I came upon the scene. The entire scene was quite remarkable but for some reason I found the sight of this broken china particularly moving.
