Description
Sunlight streams through the crack of an open door and a bare window, falling gently on the old plank floor, more harshly on the white painted table top in this scene typical of the early 1800s. The room is part of the sutler store at Fort Atkinson in Fort Calhoun, Nebraska. A set of vintage checkers on the table invites visitors to sit down and enjoy a game. This image is also available in black and white in my Black and White gallery.

A beautiful still life, with furniture, yet! Love the simplicity of composition, the soft lighting, and the warm tones, Nikolyn. f/l

Lovely image Nikolyn, I would love to see the rest of this house! F/L

It's actually just a country store - counters along two sides, a side room set up for living quarters, and a loft for storage. The main room is wide enough for a couple of tables like this one. It's a lovely place, though, and the fort is very interesting - especially on the first weekend of the month, May - October when they have "living history" days. Thanks for the comment and support.
