Whitely Bay or nearby from a slide from my first visit to the UK in 1988. I took an unstructured trip up north on the A1, staying at Bed and Breakfasts when I got sleepy. I spend my first night in Whitely Bay, a great place to find an ocean view room without spending a lot of money. The only disadvantage of the north sea is that the weather isn't often warm enough for swimming. Nice for walking and looking at, and looking of castles nearby. We stayed there on a later occasion just before going to the south of France, and Tony found it funny that I missed Whitely Bay when we were in Palavas.
