Sametta Parker's love of fine arts began in her childhood with music, theatre and photography. She began taking pictures when she received her first camera, a point-and-shoot Polaroid at the age of seven. When she began high school, Parker's father gave her her first SLR camera, and she was rarely seen without it. By her senior year in high school, her work had been published in a number of campus publications, and she had taken over dear old dad's darkroom. In addition to photography, Parker is a self-taught artist. She began drawing and etching quite by accident, creating her first etching in college, while playing with an electric pencil engraver and a piece of glass.
