Description

Here is a watercolor of some Yucca Blossoms in the Nevada Desert.
Yucca's bloom in the Spring and this is from a photo I took below Cold Creek, NV last April. The blossoms remind me of orchids, the petals are thick, obviously to help retain water in the dry desert climate. Yuccas are amazing plants. The roots are edible, and the fiber from the spikey leaves has been woven into baskets for centuries. When they are blooming Yuccas are spectacular and the blossom bunch can be 2 or more feet high itself. when they aren't in bloom they are weird looking spikey plants that are rather mundane and formidable to approach because of the spines.
