Taken at the haunted Alexandria Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. The Alex was not only the first world-class hotel in Los Angeles, it was also one of the wildest. You see, Los Angeles was still transitioning from a Wild West town into a sophisticated urban city when the luxury hotel opened in 1906. Because of this, grifters, mining speculators, millionaires, oil tycoons, bankers, opera singers, politicians, athletes, tourists, motion picture stars, and motion picture wannabes all mixed and mingled...and one never knew when a scandal, a million dollar business deal, or a party would break out. Life was so exciting at the Alex that newspaper reporters were staked out in the lobby at all hours to catch the latest gossip. As one might expect, the hotel also had a dark side filled with anger, back room betrayals, heartbreak...and suicides.
