Description
Pā'ako Beach, often called wedding beach or secret beach, is a lovely small secluded cove with luxurious golden sands in Mākena on the warm sunny south shores of Maui Hawai'i. It is very beautiful. This coastal area is within a protected marine habitat of hard bottomed and coral reef communities with many beautiful sea creatures and marine life. Often in early morning and in late evening you may see Honu as well, the Hawaiian green sea turtles.
It is relatively protected from large waves and ocean swells in a deep channel called Kealaikahiki, or sometimes Alalakeiki, between the south side of the island of Maui and the island of Kohemalamalama O Kanaloa, its ancient Hawaiian name of Kanaloa, more commonly known as Kaho'olawe Island.
Kanaloa is Lord of the underworld, Akua o ka moana ili, moana uli.
God of the entire ocean, god of seamen and lord of fishermen.
In Hawaiian chants and cultural rituals, Kū, Lono, Kanaloa and Kāne are the four major Hawaiian Gods.
Mākena is wonderful for sunbathing and snorkeling but take care there are sharks as well. There are high winds here sometimes with large waves. I love to sit on those rocks and watch the waves. It is one of my favourite locations to photograph sunsets.
I seek solace near the ocean. I love the sound of the incoming waves, the salt and seaspray in my hair and on my skin. The ocean is my cathedral. The rhythm and power of the ocean restores my soul.

Sharon, your work is incredible, and I should look at your page more often! Your birds, flowers, beaches -- so beautifully composed and photographed! Recently you made a nice comment about a watercolor cardinal I painted and sold, and i thank you. I surely wish I had your talent for photography as my own shots, used as resources for my watercolors, are much lacking. Someday i may ask you for permission to paint from one of your gorgeous art photos... and your answer, either way, would, of course, be respected. In any case, thank you for sharing all of your incredible work. You are a fabulous artist!

I love this and the story that goes with it! Lapiz Lazuli it is for sure in this amazing capture revealing the flow of the waves on that breathtaking shore in a river of time.
