Artist's Description
Have you ever heard the story about the turkey almost being the symbol of the USA instead of the Eagle? We have of a lot of both birds in our pastures which got me to thinking about the subject. According to an article written by the smithsonian magazine it is a myth that Benjamin Franklin wanted the turkey to replace the eagle. However, he did not want the eagle either calling it a bird of bad moral character who does not get its living honestly. As for the Turkey he had mixed emotions calling it both respectable and a little vain and silly. Knowing Franklin this could have all just been his sense of humor so it's hard to tell if he was serious but I thought it was interesting history and wanted to share it. What bird would you have chosen for the United States and if you are from another country share your nations bird. #rural #turkey #wildlife #naturelover #naturelovers #eagle #baldeagle #pasture #nature #farm #farming #farmlife #birds #birdsofinstagram #birdstagram #usa #unitedstat...
