Crossbill Art

As members of the genus Loxia, crossbills are part of the finch family. As you can see in much of our crossbill art, the crossed tips of their mandibles (in orange, red, green, or yellow) set them apart. This is a result of adaptation for feeding on seeds from coniferous cones. The only time they will erupt out of their Northern Hemisphere habitats is if their cone crop fails in the early winter months.
