Metal Print Reviews (3000)

Average Rating (4.92 Stars):

July 15th, 2019

Let me preface this by saying I've purchased multiple metal prints from Fine Art America in the past and have not had any issues. Unfortunately I had one with this metal print. The photo content itself is great - the artist did a great job capturing Broken Top. it's the Fine Art America metal print manufacturing process and unresponsive customer service that gets low marks. When I received it (packaged with another metal print which was just fine) this had a pinpoint dent in the back of the metal which caused a point defect to protrude in an noticeable spot. The upper left corner of the frame was bent as well. Packaging was not dented at all, and the other metal print which I got was undamaged as well, so I can only conclude this happened during the manufacturing process. I sent a web form to customer service nearly 3 weeks ago with extensive pictures about this. I never got a response. Last week I tried started the automated returns process (which requires me to ship back the defective print at my expense which I read on the forums that damaged prints can be replaced free of charge) only to find out it needed to be received in 2 days because I was up against the 30 day limit. I shouldn't have waited so long to get a response, and/or should have been e-mailing customer support daily to get this resolved. In an ideal world Fine Art America would have sent me a replacement metal print and I would have fawned over the customer service and rated this 5 stars. Instead I have a metal print which I can't really hang and am out $300, and the artist unfairly gets a 1 star review. Not their fault Fine Art America messed this one up.

Picture looks great on the wall -- you can even pick out the Mt. Bachelor chair lifts in the photo.

Artist's Description

Nichelle Nichols is arguably the most mesmerizing, influential beauty of my childhood (probably only challenged by Wonder Woman). I can't remember life without her in it. Though I don't know her personally, she has somehow always been as pertinent to me as family and I was captivated by her strong, communicational calm on the bridge of the Star Trek Enterprise as the groundbreaking Lt. Uhura, one of the first African American females on American television not portrayed as a servant. MLK, Jr. personally praised her work telling her "she could not give up" when she considered leaving due to a conflict of interest. (Nichelle and Star Trek's creator, Gene Roddenberry, were involved romantically for years before he eventually married Majel Barret, (Nurse Christine Chapel) from the series. Before Star Trek, Nichelle sang with Duke Ellington and was also a star performer at the Chicago Playboy Club. After the original Star Trek was cancelled, Nichelle volunteered her time in a special pr...

About Russell Boyle

Originally from Detroit, MI, I am currently a Brooklyn based mixed media artist investigating the conflict humans experience as inevitable aging beings entrapped in assigned gender roles. Fascinated and frustrated by the proposed definitions of "men" and "women" combined with the horror, beauty and inevitable decay of youth in an increasingly violent society, I am on a psychological mission to excavate the surviving spirit that lies beneath the mortal facades created by these conditions. Often rendering individuals in loose portraiture as sexless and crackled doll heads or mannequins, I am motivated by the idea that the human body and its psyche is resilient as it is fragile, akin to the plastic shell of a vintage composition doll...
