Description
P51 Mustang
WW2 Classic Icon
The personal mount of the 78th Fighter Group commander (Col. John Landers) this P51 was based at RAF Duxford, and is finished in the livery of the 84th Fighter Squadron. One of the best preserved Mustangs still in flyable condition the Big Beautiful Doll took part in many of the Duxford Legends airshows. Lost as a result of a mid-air collision at Duxford in 2011 (the pilot bailed out successfully) she is still remembered as a significant part of the wartime Duxford Eagles.

Another great one, Pat. ( I didn't know this one was lost in an accident, but happy the pilot survived.)
Pat Speirs replied:
Thanks Douglas. Doll tangled with a Skyraider when pulling up from a formation pass, Doll left with no elevator/rudder at about 1000ft, pilot bailed, Skyraider struggled round the circuit with about 6ft of starboard wing missing, landed safely.
