"New Market General Store" ... New Market, Maryland ... is an image that to me represents a vision of times gone by ... the wonderful buntings in the windows and flags waving gently in the summer breezes represent a simpler time when love of country was also a simple virtue. This one always reminds me of a time that I don't even remember in this life ... but somehow has strong pulls. Genetic memories? A previous life?

New Market, Maryland is a delightful small town, located along old Route 40 between Baltimore and Frederick, Maryland. As long as I've been visiting New Market, the General Store, seen here captured in July of 2009, has been open for business. Stepping inside is like stepping back in time.
New Market has long been known as the Antiques Capital of Maryland. Downtown New Market is lined with many small shops specializing in the sale of antiques and other goods. While antique- tourism occurs year round, New Market holds two annual festivals that highlight the town's historic past. The "A Day in New Market" festival is held annually on the first Saturday in May. "Christmas in New Market" is held on the first Saturday in December every year as well. Both festivals celebrate the traditional life of 18th and 19th century residents.
