Description
The Commodore John Barry Monument is on the west side of Franklin Square in Washington, DC. Barry fought in the American Revolutionary War as an officer in the Continental Navy, and is considered "The Father of the American Navy". In addition to the lofty bronze statue of Barry dressed in military uniform, below him is a woman made of marble who stands on the bow of a ship with a sword in one hand, and an olive branch in the other. The monument was made by sculptor John Boyle, and dedicated in 1914.
