I had often wondered about what the nightly communion with the lighthouse flashes of light and what they actually meant to me. Sometimes you don't really fully digest your life experiences till much later in life. Living on the edge of the ocean is just so elemental. Life's truths are conveyed in the simple oceanic life, observing night and day, tides, and weather. It's like being on the edge of the Galaxy. The ocean is so vast and eternal. The flashes of light in the night on the edge of the world made by Eastern Point Light were for warning Mariners off the rocks but the meaning of the light is a lifeline on some kind of ultimate interior level of being. I don't think there is anything more healing and aligning than being in the beam of a light house light at night. It helps you realize that there are many things in life that are like a sentinel, that is the lighthouse; a good book, wise counsel, a good meal, a wonderful friend, poetry, or your own inner soul illumination. Because we really are all our own lighthouses, freely beaming our inner strength, light, and support out into the ocean of life.
